Kaumudi Marathé is a cookbook author and food historian, focusing on the food history of her homeland, India. In an earlier avatar, she was a hard news reporter and a feature writer who liked to eat. Disappointed by the lack of good Indian food available in the United States, she started and ran a cooking school/catering company called Un-Curry to share real regional Indian home cooking with Americans. She wants people to know that Indian cuisines are rich and varied, and that there is no such thing as curry in India. When she is not writing or editing cookbooks for ATK or developing recipes for Cook's Illustrated or Cook's Country, she cooks for friends and is working on a novel. Kaumudi also likes to hike in the California mountains, run long distances, and look at art.
