Savory Noodle Kugel with Caramelized Onions and Cauliflower

Why This Recipe Works
After trying several types of savory kugel recipes, we preferred an onion version, believing that it would be the most neutral complement to a wide range of main courses. While the onions were only lightly browned in the recipes we had prepared, we knew that the dish would benefit from more caramelization. Our tests showed that when cooked over medium heat in a combination of vegetable oil and butter, the onions developed a complexity and multilayered flavor that tasters enjoyed.
