Warm Figs with Goat Cheese and Honey
Figs have a subtle, seductive flavor that comfortably swings between the sweet and savory sides of the menu. We wanted to combine juicy figs with a trio of their greatest complements—goat cheese, honey, and walnuts—and make an addictive appetizer.
Why This Recipe Works
The best figs and goat cheese recipe depends upon using the right ingredients and handling them carefully. We chose the ripest, plumpest fresh figs we could find. Most any fresh, smooth goat cheese will do; aged or particularly crumbly varieties won’t melt smoothly enough. And for the honey, mild-flavored options, like clover, taste best. To lend sweetness to our figs and goat cheese recipe, we candied the walnuts, simply tossing them with a bit of brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon in a hot skillet until the sugar melted and thoroughly covered the nuts.
