If you don’t have a chimney starter, use this easy technique to light the charcoal.

If you don’t have a chimney starter, use this easy technique to light the charcoal.

Open the bottom vent and place eight sheets of balled newspaper beneath the bottom grate. Pile the charcoal in an even pile in the center of the rack and light the paper. After about 20 minutes, the coals will be covered with gray ash and ready to be rearranged for cooking. (Don’t use instant-light charcoal, which can impart nasty flavors to food.)
