Tips For Smoothies

Here are a few guidelines for making the perfect smoothie.

Here are a few guidelines for making the perfect smoothie.

SAY NO TO NONFAT: Trying to save a few calories? Low-fat yogurt works well, but nonfat yogurt just doesn't cut it—tasters found it "gritty."

FREEZE THE FRUIT: Frozen fruit adds flavor and body without iciness and is often better than fresh during the off-season. If you've got great fresh fruit on hand, freeze it for 2 to 3 hours before using.

DON'T GO GREEN: Unripe bananas taste as green as they look. Buy the ripest bananas you can find—and don't worry about a few brown spots.

THE RIGHT RATIO: Our ideal smoothie formula is 2 cups frozen fruit, 1 1/2 cups yogurt, 1/2 cup juice, 2 bananas, and 2 tablespoons honey. This will yield about three to four breakfast-sized servings.
