What You Need To Know

Are there real differences among the four major national brands of English muffins? To find out, we got busy toasting and invited our tasters to the table. We were looking for slightly yeasty, slightly sweet flavor and a texture—once toasted—that was crisp and craggy on top and soft and chewy inside. Although we liked all four muffins, one brand was our favorite. Interestingly, this brand had more salt than the competition, which brought out the sweetness of the muffins. The muffins are listed in order of preference.
