    Unlike other recipe resources out there, we don’t accept any sort of advertising. We know that our readers rely on us for unbiased reviews and we believe accepting advertising would stand in the way of that mission. As you may already know, America’s Test Kitchen is made up of dozens of incredibly talented test cooks, who exhaustively test every recipe we publish. That’s what makes our recipes so great! We know that charging for recipes is unusual, but we believe our content and our unbiased reputation are worth it, and we like to think our fans agree.

    With a membership to our website, you get benefits you don’t get from a magazine subscription. Online members can access recipes going all the way back to the first issue of Cook’s Illustrated magazine, or see episodes of America’s Test Kitchen from our very first season. You can easily access related content when viewing a recipe, create a shopping list, view pre-made menus for all sorts of occasions, and save your favorite recipes for easy access later.  

    We also offer the ability to register for free on both AmericasTestKitchen.com and CooksCountry.com. Registrants can access recipes and episodes from the two most current seasons of both of our shows for free online. And if you want access to older content, but still aren’t sure about paying for recipes, you can always try us out free for 14 days.   • You can renew your online membership at any time by following these steps:

  • All videos from seasons 13 and 14 of America's Test Kitchen, as well as seasons 5 and 6 of Cook's Country, have closed captioning available. To turn on closed captioning, simply hold your cursor over the video until you see a small popup that says “Captions” in the upper left hand corner. Click this button and select “English” to turn on closed captioning.

  • You can save a recipe or article by using our new Favorites feature. Favorites are designed to let you bookmark and organize your favorite recipes into categories and menus. You can select "Add to Favorites" to bookmark any page, and you can click on "Favorites" at any time to refer back to your favorite recipes. If you’d rather save a recipe or article to your computer's hard drive, choose “File,” then “Save” on your Web browser menu bar.

  • There are a few reasons you might be having trouble logging in. First, make sure you are on the right website. We have several websites, and not all of our members have access to all of our sites. If you’re not sure which website you have a membership to, try checking the confirmation email you received from us when you signed up.

    If you’re sure you’re on the right website, try these tips:

    1. Our usernames and passwords are case sensitive. Make sure you’re entering your email and password the same way you did when you set up the account.

    2. Make sure there are no spaces before your email address or password.

    3. If your computer stores and populates your username and password automatically, try erasing this information from the login screen and entering your information manually. You will know that your computer has populated your password for you if you see dots or asterisks (****) in the password field.

    4. Make sure you have cookies enabled.

    5. If you have antivirus or firewall software, make sure that we are listed as a "safe site."

    6. Check the clock on your computer. If it’s not accurate, our website might not work properly.

    iPad: Cancelling your Cook's Illustrated magazine app for iPad subscription is managed through your iTunes Account Settings. After logging into your iTunes Account, look for the option to manage your subscriptions under Settings, where you can turn off auto-renewal on your subscription. Once turned off, your subscription will not renew at the end of the current subscription term.

    Kindle Fire: Cancelling your Cook's Illustrated or Cook's Country magazine Kindle subscription is managed through your Kindle Account Settings. After logging into your Kindle account, click on “Manage Subscriptions”.   • The Nook: To get Cook's Illustrated magazine on your Nook, go to the Nook store and, using your Nook account, follow the simple directions to either start your free trial subscription or to place an order for a single issue of the magazine.

    Google Play: Cook's Illustrated magazine is available on the new Nexus 7 tablet from Google as well all Android phones and tablets, when you subscribe via Google Play.

    iPad: To get Cook's Illustrated magazine on your iPad, go to the Apple App Store and download the free Cook's Illustrated magazine app for iPad. Within the app you will find options to purchase individual issues or start a subscription to receive each issue as it is published.

    Kindle Fire: To get Cook's Illustrated magazine on your Kindle Fire, go to the Amazon Kindle store and, using your Amazon account, follow the simple directions to either start your free trial subscription or to place an order for a single issue of the magazine.

  • You will not have to pay again for a digital issue you already purchased as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought it with.  After launching our iPad app, go to the "Newstand" and select the Cook's Illustrated Digital Magazine app, click on the wheel icon in the upper righthand corner of the app and choose “Restore All Purchases.”

     

  • Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country magazine iPad Apps can be downloaded via the Apple iTunes store. Your digital subscription is entirely managed within your Apple iTunes account.

  • Accessing Cook's Illustrated magazine digitally is similar to the print magazine, but with many enhancements.   • If you’d like to sign up to test recipes for Cook's Illustrated or Cook's Country, you can find links on each website's homepage. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page where it reads "Be a Recipe Tester." (On CooksCountry.com, be sure to first click on the “Current Issue” link below the Magazine information near the bottom of the page before scrolling down.)

    How it works: There are ten panels of recipe testers for each magazine, and each panel receives an e-mail with a recipe and a survey about once per month.  Each tester makes the recipe, then spend 5-10 minutes filling out the survey, letting us know if you would make the recipe again, if you followed the recipe as written, were there any instructions that were difficult to understand, etc. We ask testers to complete the survey within two weeks of receiving it, however if there is ever a recipe you’re not interested in, or if you just don’t have time, you can feel free to simply ignore the email.

  • We know that for many of our fans, special dietary needs play a big role in your choices in the kitchen. We also know that there are a lot of resources out there who specialize in specific diets. At America’s Test Kitchen, however, we have one goal: to make great tasting food. We know our fans will pick and choose from our recipe collection to make the choices that are right for them, and that not all of our recipes are right for everyone.

    Providing detailed nutritional information is a complicated and exacting science, and not our area of expertise. And just like with our recipes, we believe that anything worth doing is worth doing right! However, we also know that staying healthy is important to our fans!     Cook’s Country magazine also includes a “Recipe Makeover” column that focuses on taking the guilt out of some of our favorite recipes, and includes nutritional information.

  • When we publish a recipe, we test again and again to make sure that the ingredients, the texture, the cook time, and countless other factors all come together seamlessly to create a recipe that is as close to perfect as we can get it. We don’t recommend making any changes to our recipes, simply because once the recipe is altered, we can’t promise that it will give you the perfect results we know you’re looking for. You should always feel free to experiment in your kitchen! However we hope you understand that once you veer away from our tried and true recipes, we can’t guarantee the results.

  • The Online Cooking School has been built to work on iPad and Tablet devices. Please note that formatting may differ on some non-Apple tablets.

     

  • You can always upgrade or downgrade your membership access at any time! Simply log in, click on the My Account link on the top of the screen, and select Manage Membership. Your current plan will be highlighted. From there select your option. Your account will be upgraded immediately, and you can start communicating with your instructor right away.

     

  • Payments are prorated for the first month of your membership following your 14-day free trial. For example, if your 14-day free trial begins January 2, then your credit card will be charged for the first time on January 16. On February 1 you will see your first monthly charge.

     

  • You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade your paid membership at any time. To cancel your membership, simply log in, click on the My Account link on the top of the screen, and select Manage Membership. From there you can choose to change or cancel your membership. As all memberships are paid at the beginning of the month you will continue to have access to the school until the last day of the calendar month of cancellation. We do not offer prorated refunds.
