Reduced-Fat French Onion Dip

Low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat sour cream made a rich-tasting, creamy base for our Reduced-Fat French Onion Dip that tasters loved. We pureed the low-fat cottage cheese with boiling water to eliminate its graininess and improve the dip’s creamy texture. The neutral flavor of cottage cheese offset the assertive flavors of sweet caramelized onions, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder in our Reduced-Fat French Onion Dip.

Traditional recipes have 400 calories, 38 grams of fat, and 9 grams of saturated fat per 1/3 cup serving. Our changes brought the numbers down to 120 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 2.5 grams of saturated fat.

Makes about 2 cups, enough for 6 servings

You'll need two small- to medium-sized onions. Avoid red onion, which will turn the dip murky brown.
