Leftovers that are completely different from the original recipe hardly seem like leftovers at all. We took a hard look at our Swiss steak recipe to see if we could spice it up a bit. Here’s what we discovered:
Test Kitchen Discoveries
Cumin and chili powder added the necessary kick to drown out the Swiss steaks’ original flavor.
Sautéing the spices in oil before adding the leftover gravy draws out more flavor.
Adding creamy pinto beans allowed us to get a few extra portions out of the leftover steak.
Some recipes require heating tortillas in a skillet or oven a few at a time. We find that microwaving the packaged tortillas all at once saves time and works just as well.
