This inventive summer salad, sent in by Patricia Harmon of Baden, Pa., won us over by incorporating Caesar salad flavors into a classic three-bean salad. Here’s what we discovered:

Don’t be tempted to omit the anchovies here—they add valuable flavor. Their fishy bite disappears when combined with the other ingredients.
Blanch the green beans in salted, boiling water until tender. The salt in the cooking liquid flavors the beans through to the center. It also helps to keep the green beans bright green.
For faster green bean trimming, gather 3 or 4 beans with the stem ends together in one hand, then simply snip the ends from the beans with kitchen shears.
