Homemade meatloaf has long been a family favorite, but its lengthy cooking time makes it impractical as a quick and easy meal during the week. We wondered if we could streamline our favorite meatloaf recipe so that it could be prepped and prepared in less than 30 minutes. Here’s what we discovered:
Test Kitchen Discoveries
Our tasters found onion powder and garlic powder to be decent substitutes for freshly chopped onion and garlic.
We tried replacing the fresh parsley with a dried version, but tasters objected to its stale flavor. We decided the stick with using fresh, which only took a couple of minutes to chop.
Searing the loaves in a skillet on the stovetop and then transferring them to the oven for baking created a desirable crust and cut the cooking time down to just 15 minutes.
