Storing Strawberries

Use this tip to keep your summer berries crush-free.

It just wouldn't feel like summer without a couple of quarts of fresh strawberries in our refrigerator. But when these heavy, juicy fruits are kept in their original basket, the berries on top crush those on the bottom. In the test kitchen, we safely store strawberries—or any delicate berry—by spreading them out on a dinner plate lined with paper towels, which absorb any excess moisture. The plate goes into the refrigerator, and we've got smush-free berries at the ready.
